Imagine, since the premiere of the latest film of the famous trilogy "the Lord of the rings" it's been nearly 15 years! As, however, time flies...
This project is one of the most ambitious in the history of cinema. All films – "the fellowship of the ring" (2001), "the Two towers" (2002) and "return of the king" (2003) – were filmed simultaneously for 8 years (!) against the backdrop of stunning landscapes of New Zealand. By the way, is the home of the Director of "Lord of the rings" Peter Jackson. That's why so many roles in the trilogy got Australian and new Zealand actors, many of which were little known to the General public.
But let's remember – there are other very good shot films in the same genre and approximately the same artistic style. We have collected 10 wonderful movies that are very similar to "Lord of the rings" and will certainly appeal to his fans.
10. The hobbit (trilogy)
In fact, is the prequel to "the Lord of the rings" and freely adapted from the novel by John. R. R. Tolkien's "the Hobbit, or There and back again". Director (TA-dam!) Peter Jackson made rather thin children's book already three large-scale, highly spectacular adult movie: "an Unexpected journey" (2012), "the Desolation of Smaug" (2013) and "the battle of the five armies" (2014). The trilogy tells of the journey of a hobbit of the Shire, Bilbo Baggins in the company of 13 dwarves to the Lonely mountain where once was a thriving dwarf Kingdom of Erebor, where now a terrible fire-breathing dragon Smaug guarding the treasure, accumulated by the dwarves. (And also about how Bilbo got the one Ring).
The events that we saw in "Lord of the rings" occur exactly 60 years after the plot of "the Hobbit", Bilbo and therefore there is noticeably older (after all, hobbits live "only" 120-130 years), but, for example, Gandalf and all the elves, has not changed at all – because they are almost immortal. Well, that is 60 years old, if you just last Monday, exactly 2 thousand?
9. Game of thrones
Oh, Yes! This series can be called a cult! Perhaps, it is not heard only one who lives in a dense forest.
From April 2011, it was shown for 7 seasons, eighth – and final – will be released in April 2019. Ogromnym waiting with impatience!
The series "Game of thrones" is based on the cycle of novels "a Song of Ice and Fire" by George R. R. Martin, but in fact, very little follows the original plot (only the most General outline), to the extent that even the appearance of many of the main characters of the film opposite the bookstore.
The show takes place in the fictional world reminding the European middle ages. But there is magic, and the dragons, and strange and cruel creatures "white walkers", and even quite a in good health gods.
In one story intertwines many storylines with a huge number of characters. Chief among them: the struggle for the Iron Throne is the throne of the Kingdom of Westeros. And Oh my God, Oh, this is so beautifully shot!
By the way, George Martin people on the Internet called "maniac" for his habit of suddenly (and in large amounts) can kill even main characters.
8. Harry Potter (8 movies)
Series about "the boy with the scar" Harry Potter – "Harry Potter and the philosopher's stone" (2001), "Harry Potter and the chamber of secrets" (2002), "Harry Potter and the prisoner of Azkaban" (2004), "Harry Potter and the goblet of fire" (2005), "Harry Potter and the order of the Phoenix" (2007), "Harry Potter and the half-blood Prince" (2009), "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Part 1" (2010), "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Part 2" (2011) – based on the books by the writer Joanne K. Rowling. By the way, in 2016, came another film, "Fantastic beasts and where they live", telling about the events that occurred 65 years before the "Harry Potter". They say it will also be a series of five pieces about the world of wizards and Muggles invented by JK Rowling.
"Potteriany" of course not mighty warriors and hordes of evil orcs, but there is a school for young wizards, strange and cute magical animals, friendship, desperate courage, and even a real battle on wands.
7. The sorcerer's apprentice
Another film in the genre of fantasy with Nicolas cage in the lead role. The action begins in the year 740, in the legendary era of the great magician Merlin. Merlin sends a magical knowledge to the disciples, Balthazar, Veronica and Horvath, and killed by the hands of the evil witch Morgana (due to the betrayal of Horvath). In the end Morgana gets hold of the spell to raise the dead and, of course, is going to conquer the world. Veronica manages to combine her soul with his in an attempt to restrain evil, and Balthazar leaves them in the Grimhold – a vessel for souls. Soon there he puts and Horvath. Dying, Merlin gives Balthazar a Dragon Ring that is able to indicate his successor. Since Balthazar this very hard looking for a successor.
Finally, in 2000-m to year, in new York, the ring suddenly "chooses" the boy Dave who Balthazar encounters in an Antiques shop. While Dave accidentally released from the Grimhold Horvath. And thus begins another epic battle of the magicians (but in the modern world)...
Overall, a pretty pathetic plot about saving the world from evil magic adult it would be difficult to perceive normally, if he had not seasoned a great sense of humor. The modern "nerd" from the Department of physics looks at the role of the sorcerer's apprentice very funny.
6. The last airbender
M. knight Shyamalan directed this film based on the story of the 1st season of the animated series "Avatar: the last airbender". Things happen in the world similar to the far East in the middle ages. The film is widely uses elements of Asian mythology, art, different styles of martial arts. The basic plot is that 4 people – Air nomads, Water Tribe, Earth Kingdom and Fire Nation – have long lived in the neighborhood, controlling their element. Harmony and peace between them supports the Avatar who can control all elements. But once the incarnation of the Avatar disappears and the Fire Nation to wage war. Stop it can only airbender of Aang – the future a new Avatar...
5. The Chronicles of Narnia (three films)
A series about magical land of Narnia, which can be accessed through the ordinary-looking wardrobe – "the lion, the witch and the wardrobe" (2005), "Prince Caspian" (2008) and "conqueror of the dawn" (2010) – based on the first three of the seven novels by the British author Clive Staples Lewis. (By the way, Clive S. Lewis and J. R. R. Tolkien were friends). From them we learn about the adventures of four ordinary children – Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy Pevensie in a country where animals can talk and generally behave like men, where you can meet centaurs and fauns, where magic is the most common phenomenon, and good always fights evil.
With the help of the lion Aslan, the Faun Mr. Tumnus and the other inhabitants of Narnia brothers and sisters Pevensies first save the magical land from the White Witch and sent her a Long Winter (which lasted as much as a hundred years). On my next visit to Narnia, the children help the rightful heir to the throne Prince Caspian defeat the evil usurper Miraz. And in the third movie they go on a voyage with Caspian, who wants to find 7 lords, friends of his father, is exiled Mirasol, and meet with many wonders and dangers.
4. Percy Jackson and the lightning thief
The film is directed by Chris Columbus filmed on the eponymous book by Rick Riordan. You do know that the ancient gods (and their kids are half-breeds), and other mythical creatures – satyrs, furies, Cerberus, and others still live among us? Percy Jackson the son of Poseidon (though he does not even know that "dad not so simple"). Together with friends (a Satyr Grover, daughter of Athena, Annabeth and son of Hermes, Luke) Percy embarks on a dangerous adventure to recover Zeus stolen lightning. And, of course, accomplishes this difficult task.
Very beautiful and romantic film (shot with a great sense of humor), based on the novel by Neil Gaiman. Country boy Tristan thorn rashly promised the first beauty Victoria Forester, that will bring her a star that fell somewhere beyond the ancient wall, where the villagers are strictly forbidden to walk. And it turns out that Tristan is the son of Princess una from the magic country Stormhold, which is behind that wall.
The young man goes over the wall to find the mother, but first finds just the star caught a girl named Yvaine, and then gets into the most amazing adventures. Save Yvaine from three old witches who wish to eat her heart out again to look younger, and four princes – heirs of the king of Stormhold (who want to take away from the girls star ruby of Power, came to her by chance), Tristan, of course, falls in love with her...
2. Solomon Kane
Very dark (but atmospheric) Michael Bassett is based on the stories by American writer Robert E. Howard. The action takes place in the early XVII century. Former cruel privateer (also a suspect in the murder of his brother) Solomon Kane tries to take refuge in a monastery in the South of England from the Reaper of the Devil demanding his soul as payment of a "transaction" about which Solomon doesn't even know.
The Abbot tells him that in order to atone for their numerous sins, Cain needs to go home. And Solomon goes on a journey through the land where the plague decimated the people, and where rampant robbers with black eyes. Wounded and abandoned in the woods Kane find and care for the puritans Crowthorne that are trying to get to the New world. Soon they again attacked the robbers, killing almost the entire family, young and Meredith is kidnapped. Now Solomon must save her, but at the same time not to indulge in the world of Reaper of the Devil...
The story takes place in the Warcraft universe, known to fans of this series of computer games. Under the influence of the Fel – demon magic – the home world of the Orc race is extinguished. Orc Horde should as quickly as possible "evacuate" to another world suitable for life. And here leaders of the orcs gather their tribes before the Dark Portal and begin the invasion of the Kingdom of Stormwind. But the people and protecting their world mages somehow sharply disagree with this state of Affairs. Yes, break out the battle!
I think most of Internet users had seen the commercials Warcraft with battle cry "For the Alliance!" and "For the Horde!", and many have personally tried on the "skin" of the characters of this series of games. Therefore, the film was greeted throughout the world (except, for some reason, US) very well.
And, by the way, "Warcraft" is one of those times, when the orcs sometimes cause much more sympathy than some people.
